Discovery Play Adventure Time Theme of the Week: Kites in the Sky
Sunday, March 31 through Saturday, April 6
Let’s learn about kites! Join us in Discovery Play Adventure Time!
When springtime blows in, it’s time to go fly a kite! We’re having fun focusing our Adventure Time play on the wonder of “Kites in the Sky” this week at Paradise Park in Discovery Play, one of the premier children’s activities in Kansas City! (Shhhhh…don’t tell but we’ll actually be learning while we play!)
What is Adventure Time?
It’s an additional activity you and your child can participate in during your visit and exploring in Discovery Play. Our friendly Paradise Park Play Facilitator engages our young guests in celebrating the theme of the week through 4 different activities: a story, interactive game, art project and cooking activity. Our curriculum is custom-designed by professionals who have put heart and soul into creating an enriching educational hands-on experience that is so much fun kids don’t even realize they are learning. Our program is inspired by unit studies, sensory play and experiential learning philosophies.
This Week’s Activities:
Imagination-capturing storytelling followed by a unique interactive activity that connects to the story and provides great kinesthetic learning.
This week: The fun begins with a witty story about a boy, a kite and the dad’s mistaken idea that his son is too small to fly it in the book, Someone Bigger by Jonathan Emmett. Ultimately, everyone learns that heroes can even come in small packages. Afterward an interactive game will ignite even more excitement when our friendly Play Facilitator connects the story to a colorful kite matching challenge for the youngsters.
Children follow basic instructions to create their own art project that expands on the theme and encourages small motor skill development. We have all the art supplies set up so you don’t have to have a mess at home!
This week: Our little guests have an opportunity to create a multi-media kite-flying scene with a variety of materials in our featured art project. Children and their grown-ups will follow basic instructions and use their small motor skills as they work as a group.
Additionally, you and your child can get your creative juices flowing even more at the three self-guided art tables. We have all the art supplies set up so you don’t have to make a mess at home! Choose from a variety of projects: a Kite Collage using scraps of colored paper for decorating your refrigerator at home, a Fly Up to the Clouds painting that will make them want to go fly a kite, and a Smiley Face Kite hand puppet to use to talk about the wind or sing kite songs
Kids love to make their own creative treat to eat when it’s finished. The Cooking Station teaches children to try new foods, work together and learn measuring skills. And, it’s just plain fun!
This week: It’s so much fun to mix a little creativity and imagination with ordinary ingredients and watch them turn into amazing treats, and this month is no exception! In the Cooking Station, kids will make a Graham Cracker Kite that they can “fly” straight into their mouths and enjoy!
Our Discovery Play center is our version of a children’s museum. And remember, you can always add Foam Factory play to your Discovery Play admission. It’s called a Flex Pass. Just ask our friendly team member when you purchase your wristband.
Here’s a great opportunity to connect through play:
